King Seiko VANAC 'Tokyo Sunrise' Limited Edition SLA089
An angular icon returns
More than 50 years after its launch, the King Seiko VANAC is reborn with a new mechanical movement and a strong, angular design. In 1972, King Seiko, characterized by its classic designs, launched the VANAC series, with its bright colors and innovative, multifaceted designs. Today, a new VANAC inherits the spirit that infused the original, opening up new possibilities for King Seiko. Inspired by the vast city where King Seiko was born, a metropolis that appears to extend endlessly into the distance, the theme for the new creations is the Tokyo horizon, a vista renowned for its depictions in art, film, and popular culture whose rich expressions change depending on the time of day.
Though the case has a strong and dynamic angularity that makes it look as if it were carved from a block of solid metal, its bezel-less design creates an elegant and thin appearance. The caseâs distortion-free mirror finish, achieved through advanced polishing techniques, creates dynamic shadows and highlights, exuding a striking presence. The dial has a horizontal stripe pattern and indexes that occupy a dedicated ring that is embedded in the dial. The 12 oâclock index and the counterweight on the seconds hand each display the striking silhouette of the letter âV,â indicating the first letter of the seriesâ name.Â
Caliber 8L45 achieves a power reserve of 72 hours thanks to an improved mainspring, and it has an accuracy of +10 to â5 seconds per day. It was engineered to have the robustness and other qualities demanded of movements that power modern-day mechanical sports watches. The movement features exquisite wave patterns on the rotor and bridges, adding a touch of luxury and refinement to its design.
Through its combination of high performance and functional beauty, Caliber 8L45 represents the pinnacle of Seikoâs mechanical watch movements.
The VANAC name is an acronym of its original design features: V for a âVibrant case design;â A for âActive lifestyleâ â for both formal and informal occasions; N for âNovel dial ringâ â its angular edges resembling a metropolis cityscape; A for âAlternative dial designâ â a 3-dimensional dial design inspired by the horizon; C for âComfortable braceletâ â a short-pitch length bracelet, completed with a mirror and hairline finish.
